In light of two recent Court of Appeal decisions – Veolia ES Nottinghamshire Ltd v Nottinghamshire County Council [2010] EWCA Civ 1214 and Coogan v News Group Newspapers Ltd [2012] EWCA Civ 48 – this lecture will tackle what Professor Finn has previously described as ‘the most sterile of debates’, to argue that it matters whether confidential information is characterised as property and that it should not be treated as such.

This is the third, and last of the annual Spring lectures organised by the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management. It will take place on Thursday 26 April at 6pm in the Executive Business Centre, close to the Bournemouth Travel Interchange (89 Holdenhurst Road, BH8 8EB).

Thursday 26 April also happens to be World Intellectual Property Day – a day that celebrates innovation and creativity and how intellectual property fosters and encourages them.

The second lecture will be given on Thursday 22 March by Alison Brimelow, former president of the European Patent Office.

Professor Tanya Aplin of King’s College London will speak on Thursday 26 April on a topic from her forthcoming edition Gurry on Confidence: The Protection of Confidential Information (Oxford University Press 2012, with Bently, Johnson & Malynicz).
