Bournemouth University Professor Bogdan Gabrys, Chair in Computational Intelligence and Director of Smart Technology Research Centre within DEC, is taking part in a series of lectures as part of a cross-European Masters/PhD programme.
Professor Gabrys is one of 17 external experts worldwide to be invited to the programme on Soft Computing and Intelligent Data Analysis, and one of only two experts from the UK. The programme started in October 2009, with the European Masters/PhD programme adapted to the Bologna convention (European Higher Education Space). It is hosted by the University of Oviedo and the European Centre for Soft Computing.
The general objective of the programme is to train students for highly qualified positions in a wide range of jobs in the public and private sector, as well as to provide students with the foundations required to pursue a PhD degree.
The curriculum emphasises up-to-date scientific knowledge and the application of analytical problem-solving skills to several types of common business problems – forecasting, optimisation, classification and data mining.
Over the past two years Professor Gabrys has delivered a series of lectures on Multiple Classifier and Prediction Systems. This comprises 7.5 hours of taught lectures – 3 thematic blocks. Professor Gabrys’ input contributes to 25% of a taught unit to an audience of international Masters and PhD students.
