Camera turns to capture gay and unpleasant land

Dr Kip Jones’ research on past rural attitudes to homosexuality grabbed the headline above in last week’s Times Higher Education.

Dr Jones is collaborating with Lond0n-based filmmaker Josh Appignanesi over the summer to create the film, Rufus Stone, which will tell the story of being gay and growing older in the British countryside. The film will be the key output of the three–year “Gay and Pleasant Land?” research project, a study about positioning, ageing and gay life in rural South West England and Wales. The project is a work package in the New Dynamics of Ageing Project, “Grey and Pleasant Land?: An Interdisciplinary Exploration of the Connectivity of Older People in Rural Civic Society” and funded by the UK’s Research Councils.

You can follow the film’s progress via the Rufus Stone blog and Facebook page.
