Industry professionals such as Glaxosmithkline, Wunderman, Vodaphone and Tesco to name a few were the employees who were desperate to hire BU’s communication grads yesterday.
BU held a specialised marketing and communications careers fair in Kimmeridge House yesterday, giving talks from leading industry recruiters on graduate schemes and interview tips.
One of the most sought after types of grads and placement students seemed to be from BU’s BA Hons Public Relations course, as based on their experience of taking on Jasmin Dent, a BA Hons PR placement student, they have decided to develop for the first time ever a communications grad scheme,
“We have a human resources department that are eager to look at talent development within the organisation and BU has been known to produce very accomplished communications students. We have only just launched our comms graduate programme, so it will be the first year we have hired in that sector, and BU is considered as a uni they would consult with.”
The day was widely attended by students from the media school looking to sharpen their skills and find employment for their placement years or after graduating.
Twins Alice and Heidi Bland, both in their final year of BA Hons Public Relations found the event extremely useful in understanding the best way to apply to graduate roles.
Alice said, “I decided to come to the careers fair today as I heard this one was more PR and communications and I was really interested in Octopus group to see what they are doing, and you never know who you might meet or what information they will give.”
Heidi continued,
“Companies told us exactly how to apply, who’s recruiting, what roles are on offer, where to apply, and specifically what email addresses to send your application to.”
Alice finished, “as sometimes when you are at home by yourself it can be confusing whether companies want an online application or just a CV, or how they would most like to receive your application so it really helped us understand how to apply to different companies.”
Vicky Hewlett Senior PR Manager at Pure, the world leading radio manufacturer, outlined why she had come back to BU for more,
“I have had experience of hiring a Bournemouth grad, I used to work at Bosch and took on a placement student there so I have been a real champion of bringing in fresh new talent and bringing them up and getting theme excited about where there career is going and perhaps hiring them in the future. The PR course at Bournemouth has a really good reputation, and our current placement student has been fantastic so we are looking to take on another one.”

Hello,
I’m a student at the media school- I think we would be better represented by this blog if you resized your photos so they didn’t stretch and look, well, a bit rubbish.
The pictures are normal sized if you view the page on internet explorer. We are working on this problem and towards getting it fixed to work across all internet providers.
