The winning group of BA Hons advertising students successfully launched their Chatterbox event in Bournemouth square yesterday 4 April.

Poppy Sargeaunt, Youth Disability Coordinator at the YMCA, said:

“Today has gone really well, we have all the young chatterboxes who are all really keen about the event, they are all really eager to tell people about the project which is a magazine group for young people with disabilities and they design a fabulous magazine which showcases all the opportunities in the area. We wanted to let more people know about the chatterboxes and not just people with disabilities so it’s really important to change peoples perceptions of disabilities as well.”

Poppy enthused that the winning students had been instrumental in making the event a success,

“We have been working really hard with the Bournemouth uni students and marketing students who have been fabulous and really supportive who have helped us market the event.”

The students decorated a large disco van in colourful balloons adorning Chatterbox banners, which members of the public are encouraged to pop, when the balloon bursts a business card falls out detailing how to find the Chatterboxes on social media, and a coloured sticker which can be stuck on a white Chatterbox board, so the organisers can measure the impact of the event awareness.

Dale Dolphin, a chatterbox age 17, complimented the students choice of marketing tools,

“A group of us go to schools, and some of it was helped by the university who decided about things like the balloons, the kids love balloons!”

One of the winning students Delphine Dubreucq said at the event:

“I am really pleased with today, the campaign was just for teenagers but we actually realised kids and parents are having a look too. We are hoping if the event goes well we are going to do it again in the Summer, so there is enough money put aside. We are just aiming to raise general awareness for the group, its really colourful which symbolises that they are a group which is very colourful and outgoing.”

Bournemouth citizen Nando Leotto aged 34 admitted the event alerted him to the group,

“I did not know what Chatterbox were before, but they explain to me that it is a group or magazine for disabled people.”
