Operations
The Operations team is responsible for all operational aspects of the pre- and post-award administration of research and knowledge exchange bids and awards. For example, costing, application forms, eligibility checks, institutional authorisation, updating RED, setting up the award, financial management of the grant, processing income and expenditure, final reports, etc.
The Operations team should be your first point of call for all operational matters regarding individual research proposals and awards.
The team is led by Jo Garrad and is based in M404 in Melbury House.
Jo GarradR&KE Operations Managerjgarrad@bournemouth.ac.uk I am responsible for overseeing the management of pre- and post-award Research and Knowledge Exchange activity across the University. My challenge is to ensure that the systems and processes are streamlined and fit for purpose, and to disseminate best practice. Outside of work I have a keen interest in birds, football (Swindon Town in particular), walking, holidaying in the UK and my cat. |
Shelly MaskellSenior R&KE Support Officer (ApSci, MS & ST)Shelly is currently on maternity leave.smaskell@bournemouth.ac.uk I am a Senior Support Officer within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Operations Team. I am responsible for providing professional and specialist advice and support to academic colleagues on all aspects of pre- and post-award R&E activity. Prior to this role, I worked in the School of Health & Social Care (HSC) for 5 years in a variety of roles; I am also a Bournemouth Media School graduate and in 2008 completed my Masters Degree in Business Administration. Outside of work I enjoy running and travelling amongst other things. I’ve completed a couple of marathons and try to embark on plenty of adventures! . |
Alexandra PeirceR&KE Officer (EU)Alexandra is currently on maternity leave peircea@bournemouth.ac.uk I am currently seconded to The Centre for Excellence in Media Practice managing the Centre’s finances and CEMP projects such as Media Education summit and CPD Short courses. Before the world of research and finance I held various roles at the University such as, Planning and Resources Officer. I have also worked in the private sector as a Marketing Executive. Recently, I have completed a qualification with the Chartered Institute of Leadership and Management. Outside of work I enjoy eating out, learning languages and am currently attempting to master rollerblading. |

I liaise mainly with Applied Sciences. I am a BU graduate gaining both my first degree and masters degree in Psychology here. |
Richard BrooksR&KE Support Officer (ApSci, MS & ST)rbrooks@bournemouth.ac.uk I am a Support Officer within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Office, Operations Team. I am responsible for providing professional and specialist advice and support to academic colleagues on all aspects of pre- and post-award R&E activity, including the management of costing, advising on pricing and project management. I liaise specifically with the School of Tourism and Media School. Prior to this current post, I worked at the University of Wales, Newport. I was a European Officer, responsible for the development, financial and administrative management, and financial claim procedures of European Union funded projects, additionally acting as Erasmus Coordinator for the institution. I have a BSc. in Business Economics, graduating at Cardiff University in 2004. I am an avid sports fan, with a passion for Rugby Union. An active member of BUSFC (Bournemouth University Staff Football Club) regularly encouraging all members of staff to keep fit and participate in social football sessions organised at the University. |

I am responsible for providing professional and specialist advice and support to academic colleagues on all aspects of pre and post-award R&E activity, including the management of costing, advising on pricing and project management (I am AAT qualified). I liaise specifically with the School of Health & Social Care. Prior to this post, I worked for a private medical company for five years progressing through administrative/organisational positions to further appointment as a product specialist supporting their sales team. Outside of work I enjoy a variety of sports, baking & visiting friends and family. |
Paul LynchSenior R&KE Support Officer (EU)plynch@bournemouth.ac.uk I am a Senior Support Officer within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Operations Team. I am responsible for providing professional and specialist advice and support to academic colleagues on all aspects of pre- and post-award R&E activity, including the management of costing, advising on pricing and project management. I liaises specifically with the School of Design, Engineering & Computing and with the School of Tourism. I have worked in university research administration, first at Warwick and then at Imperial, for a total of sixteen years before moving to Bournemouth. Having worked in physical and social sciences, arts, humanities and medicine I have knowledge and understanding of a broad range of sponsors. I have extensive experience in both pre- and post-award administration and particularly in the financial management of projects.

Natalie BatesR&KE Support Officer (BS, DEC & HSC)nbates@bournemouth.ac.uk I am responsible for providing professional support and specialist advice to academic colleagues on all aspects of pre- and post-award research and knowledge exchange activity, including the management of costing, advising on pricing and project management. I have a degree in English and Literary Studies, a PGCE in Early Years and an MA in Lifelong Learning. I previously worked as a Research Assistant in DEC and in the School of Health and Social Care where I was co-author on publications including academic journals and book chapters. In my spare time I also work for two academic journals as a proof reader and peer review administrator. |

Sally GeislerRKE Project Administratorsgeisler@bournemouth.ac.uk I am a Research and Knowledge Exchange Project Administrator within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Operations Team. I provide support for all the R & KE administrative needs and I am responsible for the management, maintenance and processing of financial documentation, as well as being the first point of contact for external R & KE enquiries. I have previously worked extensively in the Banking and Financial Services industry, both in the UK and Australia. My roles have included working as a CeMAP qualified Mortgage Adviser, as a Risk Administrator and as a Risk Manager, assessing the Bank’s exposure to risk through quarterly assessments of branches across Hampshire and Dorset. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, reading and playing golf. |
Charmain LyonsSenior R&KE Administratorclyons@bournemouth.ac.uk I am the Senior Project Administrator within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Office, Operations Team, and provide information, training, support and advice to the Project Administrators and Support Officers. I am responsible for overseeing and monitoring project administration and providing administrative support for all aspects of R&KE activity across BU associated with awarded projects and the management, maintenance and processing of financial documentation. |
Jennifer RoddisSenior R&KE Support Officer (BS, DEC, HSC & PS)jroddis@bournemouth.ac.uk I am responsible for overseeing Research and Knowledge Exchange support for the School of Health and Social Care, Business School, School of Design, Engineering and Computing and Professional Services. This provides a challenging mixture of supporting bids to and awards from a variety of funders, across a range of subject areas. I am currently studying for a PhD exploring perspectives, beliefs and understandings of hereditary thrombophilia from the point of view of those affected by the condition.

Emily CieciuraR&KE Support Officer (EU and KTPs)ecieciura@bournemouth.ac.uk I have worked at BU for over eleven years within a number of departments and during times of major change. I now work in RKE Ops supporting Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Innovation Vouchers and Erasmus Mundus. As a result, I work across all Schools and so enjoy the variety of interactions that come with this role. I particularly appreciate the direct contact which I have with all KPT partners, working together to make these important Technology Strategy Board-supported initiatives provide valuable outcomes for all involved. I am also a member of the University’s Staff Disability Network. As a Chartered Librarian, with not one but two degrees in Librarianship, I maintain contact with the profession as the chair of my local library’s advisory panel. Throughout my working life, I have been committed to acquiring new knowledge and hold the CIM Advanced Certificate in Marketing, BU’s Postgraduate Certificate in HR and the Further Adult Education Teaching Certificate. In 2013, I am taking CIMA’s Certificate in Business Accounting, to enhance my current role at BU. |

I have just completed a part time degree in International Business and Management at Bournemouth University. Whilst completing the degree I worked for two large financial organisations in the local area. Prior to this I trained in Mental Health nursing. Outside of work I enjoy retail therapy and spending time with friends and family. . |
