The HSC Freshers Fair will be run today and will take place from 11:00-15:00 in Bournemouth House at BG11. Here at the freshers fair, RKEO will have a presence, the student engagement coordinator will take some of BU’s research to engage our students with, whilst participating in hands on activities to make their experience with HSC Freshers Fair that little bit more memorable.
Posters will be on show to our HSC freshers and will show the secondary prevention of skin cancer. Secondary prevention (early detection through Skin Self Examination (SSE)) has been neglected. Kasparian et. al’s (2009) review concluded there was a need to develop specific targeted interventions to increase preventative and early detection behaviours.
There will be hands on activities for students to participate in, including a Saucy Diver experiment and the Rice Stick challenge. Both tasks will certainly cause confusion and raise a few smiles, as it has for most of the Research and Knowledge Exchange Office. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships will also be available for our HSC students to find out more about whilst future student engagement events will be available in further detail.
If you would like to take part in some of these activities or just hear about some of the Student Engagement with Research events coming up, then come along or email me on ssquelch@bournemouth.ac.uk
See you there!
