To celebrate the Society of Biology’s Biology Week 2013 (12th-18th October) Dr Genoveva Esteban from Applied Sciences helped the Thomas Hardye School (Dorchester) honour the work of pioneering evolutionist Alfred Russel Wallace 100 years after his death. Genoveva’s popular “Microscope Madness” joined the activities offered by Butterfly Conservation, Dorset Wildlife Trust, the Jurassic Coast and Thomas Hardye School staff.
The event had the privilege of having some of the bird skins housed at the Dorset County Museum that were collected by Wallace himself. More than 300 people attended the event, from toddlers to octogenarians, including c 200 children from 28 schools, from Weymouth to Blandford, Parkstone to Bridport – all showing boundless enthusiasm for the activities and challenges in front of them.
