As outlined in a previous blog post, CEL’s Jacqueline Priego was in Medellin, Colombia during the week commencing 9 November, to present at the VII Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences. While in Colombia, Jacqueline visited Universidad EAFIT, a BU Global partner since 2013.
The engagement with EAFIT started with an international task force led by Jill Davey (Centre for Social Work, Sociology and Social Policy at BU), who has maintained academic links with a university-wide unit in charge of social responsibility programmes, EAFIT Social. Mario Vargas, Director of the Unit, discussed with Jacqueline possibilities for strengthening the current reciprocal placements scheme between BU and EAFIT, as well as for furthering avenues of collaboration.
Marcela Wolff, Head of EAFTI’s International Relations Office, welcomed the visit and provided a short tour around EAFIT’s wide-range of facilities and programmes. Moreover, she expressed interest in linking the work of EAFIT’s Learning Laboratory with the developments already taking place at BU’s Centre for Excellence in Learning. Claudia Zea, Director of the Lab and Leader of the Research Group on Information and Communication Technologies, introduced Jacqueline to the the work under her research group remit, especially ‘Proyecto 50’, a project to strengthen digital and communication skills in a pedagogic context in Colombia.
Virtual (and physical!) meetings have been scheduled to maximise the impact of this visit in relation to relevant BU’s centres/faculties. Given EAFIT’s position as a BU global partner, there is fertile ground for a fructiferous engagement.
If any of the above sounds like something you would like to be involved with, do not hesitate to contact CEL’s Jacqueline Priego, who will be able to put you in contact with members of staff at EAFIT.
