RSA event: Thurs 19th June – speakers confirmed – book now!

Join the BU Research Staff Association (RSA) for an exciting event on Thursday 19th June, Talbot Campus 10:00 – 14:30.  This in-person lunchtime event is designed to provide support, inspiration, and foster meaningful connections among research staff across all faculties.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Edwin van Teijlingen (FHSS), who brings extensive expertise in Public Health, Health Promotion, and the Organisation of Maternity Care. He will share insights on developing a research career both within and beyond academia.

Dr Michelle Heward (FST) will present a case study based on her experience with funding applications, sharing practical lessons learned and highlighting how to build on small pots of funding. The Research Development and Support Team (RDS) will lead a hands-on workshop on Getting Started with Grant Applications, offering tools and guidance to help researchers take the next steps in their research journey.

By the end of the session, you’ll have valuable tools to navigate funding opportunities and plan your next steps—whether in academia or beyond. It is also a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and be part of a supportive research community.

FST and BUBS Research Staff Association Reps wanted!

HR excellence in research logoThe BU Research Staff Association (RSA) is a forum to promote research culture at BU. Research staff from across BU are encouraged to attend, to network with others researchers, disseminate their work, discuss career opportunities, hear updates on how BU is implementing the Research Concordat, and give feedback or raise concerns that will help to develop and support the research community at BU.

We are looking to recruit FST and BUBS Faculty RSA Representatives.

The Faculty RSA reps role is to support the Institutional reps with the running of the BU RSA, attending the Research Concordat Steering Group, and Faculty Research and Professional Practice Committee Meetings, to provide an update on the BU RSA and feedback any comments or concerns.

Eligible research staff are those on research-only contracts – fixed-term or open-ended employment (not PTHP/casual contracts) who have at least one year remaining on their contract at the time of recruitment.

If you are interested in the FST RSA rep or BUBS  RSA rep role, please supply a few words to demonstrate your interest and availability in relation to the position. These should be submitted to the RDS Researchdev@bournemouth.ac.uk  by 5pm on Thursday 14 March 2024.

Idea Ignition Retreat Day: How can researchers fight against racism towards East and Southeast Asian communities?

Racism towards East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities was both exacerbated and exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dishearteningly, the issue, and how to tackle it, has received limited scholarly attention in the UK (particularly compared to other western countries such as the US).

The proposed event will gather British Academy ECRN members and others whose work focus on racial and social justice, migration, cultural politics, identity, and activism, among others. We welcome scholars whose study particularly focus on the ESEA communities.

We also welcome colleagues who study other minority communities that are targeted by racism, aiming to inspire relevant scholarly examinations of the ESEA communities.

A “Writing Day” is organised by BU’s Research Staff Association

As part of their activities for this academic year, RSA is organised a Writing Day for Researchers.

This Writing Day aims to help support BU researchers work on their publications by providing some dedicated time and space, away from everyday distractions.

We’ll begin with some introductions – a chance to meet other researchers, make friends and support each other.

Then we’ll get down to business… writing!

RSA Drop-In Meetings – Join us on Wed 1st November

The Research Staff Association (RSA) is a forum to promote BU research culture. Research staff from across BU are encouraged to network with others researchers, hear updates on how BU is implementing the Research Concordat, and give feedback or raise concerns that will help to develop and support the research community at BU.

 

For this academic year, RSA has scheduled monthly drop-in meetings where colleagues can come along and discuss about workshops that might be interested to attend, RSA activities, any concerns that they have etc.

RSA cordially invites you to attend whichever of the scheduled sessions best suits your schedule and meet your RSA reps, discuss with them about your career development opportunities or any concerns you may have.

RSA Drop In Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month from 10:30-11:00
