Tuesday 4th June sees out next Cafe Scientifique, and a Festival special at that! Prof Holger Schutkowski (Deputy Dean of the School of Applied Sciences and Professor of Bioarchaelogy) will be giving a talk on:
So you think you are what you eat?
We all need our five a day, our carbs and meats to survive. But why are we so obsessed with food? Because humans eat a diet. We eat what we choose to eat. This is at the heart of something distinctively human: cuisine, food as cultural meaning – not only good to eat, but always also good to think. It is a reflection of our attitudes, lifestyles, preferences, biases, peer pressures and status. You will be taken on a mouth-watering journey through space and time, from the arctic to the tropics, from Neanderthal diet to modern fast food. Indulge yourself!
Unlike the majority of our Festival of Learning events you won’t need to register for this one, just come along and enjoy yourself! If you want to find out more about the Festival of Learning then head to www.bournemouth.ac.uk/fol where you can see the full range of activities.
As ever, this event will take place in the wonderful Cafe Boscanova, with doors opening at 6.30pm and the talk starting at 7.30pm. Drink, light snacks and a couple of hot meal options will be on sale. Get there early to guarantee a seat!
