7646-INTERNATIONAL-Global BUzz ASEAN-DIGITAL SCREEN-27 04 16-v 2 0_Page_1 BU invites you to celebrate the countries that make up the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region, as we host an event that showcases the variety of cultures and BU’s relationships across Southeast Asia on Wednesday 11 May.

Through your engagement, we hope to create a buzz on campus with a series of talks and cultural activities from the region, including food and entertainment.

The event will be an opportunity to showcase BU’s on-going research and engagements across Southeast Asia and to hear about the experiences of our students from those countries that make up the ASEAN region who are studying in Bournemouth as well as those who have travelled there as part of their degree.

Arrival is from 1pm in Kimmeridge House foyer for an informal networking lunch, with the formal programme of events getting underway from 2pm to 5pm. Attendance is free – simply book your ticket via Eventbrite.

International Funding: Malaysian Urbanisation

Malaysia-UK Research and Innovation Bridges Competition

Innovate UK, Research Councils UK (RCUK) and the Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) are to invest up to £14.4 million in collaborative research and development projects to stimulate innovation in response to Malaysia’s urbanisation challenges.

This competition focuses on finding new commercial solutions to challenges that Malaysia is facing as climate change increasingly impacts upon its cities and its urbanisation trajectory, with the solutions expected to emerge through the translation of existing, excellent research.

The aim of the competition is to bring together companies (small-to-medium-sized companies and/or larger businesses), research and technology organisations, academics, public sector bodies and charities from Malaysia and the UK for the joint industrial research to develop innovative products, processes or services that meet critical challenges existing within the following five sectors:

health and well-being
improving environmental resilience and energy security
future cities
agritech (used to solve explicit urban food and nutrition issues)
digital, innovation and creativity

This investment from the UK side has been made possible through the UK Department of Business, Innovation and Skills-managed Newton Fund.

The competition involves a two-stage application process.

Applicants must register by noon UK time 30 September 2015. The deadline for expressions of interest is at noon UK time on 7 October 2015.

There will be a briefing webinar for potential applicants. Further details will be provided on the call webpage and @NewtonFund.
