There are a number of pathways connected with types of funding that will be of interest to you. The Research Council Funding pathway includes: online session for the ‘Introduction to the UK research councils’, helping you to identify their different remits and the funding on offer, such as programme grants, and leadership fellowships; and several workshops on writing sections of the applications, such as case for support, pathways to impact, and justification of resources for those who want to brush up their skills in line with the latest funder guidance. It also includes workshops on becoming an external peer reviewer/panel member.
The International Funding pathway provides a large amount of activities, which includes: online sessions for finding international funding; workshops and webinars for RISE, Interreg and to introduce EU MSCA fellowships – as well as bid writing retreats for this scheme; online sessions for an overview of Horizon 2020, showing the funding opportunities available, as well as individual workshops for the different pillars of funding; and several activities for funding in other countries, such as the US, China, and ASEAN countries (linked to BU’s Global Engagement strategy). Whilst the Newton Fund involves international funding, the opportunities available are publicised through most of the UK major funders. Information on European Research Council Advanced Grants can be found here.
The Funding from Major Charities pathway provides online sessions introducing the Wellcome Trust and Leverhulme Trust where you can learn about the types of funding on offer, such as research project grants; and bid writing retreats. The Funding from the academies pathway provides workshops introducing the British Academy and Royal Society, including their senior research fellowships and Wolfson Research Professorships. The NIHR pathway provides an online session introducing their schemes, such as programme grants; as well as workshops focussed on fellowships, grant applications, and Patient and Public Involvement.
The Working with Business pathway provides workshops introducing Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and a guide to Innovate UK funding. The Building a Team pathway provides sandpits on various topics. Four of these are held each year to bring together people from different disciplines and sectors. Participants are guided through a series of creative and though-provoking exercises to reach a group-based consensus of the interdisciplinary research which they wish to take forward collectively to application stage. This pathway also provides workshops on developing networks and working with stakeholders and building partnerships.
All of the above also have funder visits and so keep an eye on the BU research blog for when these are coming up.
