In the recently produced Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, 2026 the top academic place is held by Zhong Lin Wang (Chinese Academy of Sciences).  He is described as preeminent physicist and materials scientist whose research revolutionized the fields of nanotechnology.  The website Top2PercentScientists.com is a searchable database of top-cited scientists that provides standardized information on things like citations, h-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. (1-3)  Top2PercentScientists.com is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Stanford University or Elsevier. Anybody can search its database.  The database shows both ‘career’ and single most recent year (=2025) ranking.

The top Bournemouth University (BU) academic ranking differs careers and most recent year.  Table 1 lists the top three BU listed academics based on their research career, and Table 2 shows the top three for 2025.  In both rankings we find Prof. Buhalis is the top BU academic!
