From Radio Solent to 359 bags of sherbet… how we have been promoting the Festival of Learning across the region!
Festival of Learning, Public engagement Becca Edwards
With the Festival of Learning just over a week away, many colleagues from across BU have been working flat out to spread the word about all the fantastic events that will be taking place between 3-14 June. On Wednesday, I was asked to talk about the Festival of Learning on Radio Solent’s Katie Martin show – which was featuring life long learning. If you want to listen, the show is available on iPlayer until Tuesday 28th May, you can fast forward to 2hours 35 minutes in if you don’t want to listen to the whole show.
Last weekend saw a huge amount of activity in Poole High Street with a dedicated team of colleagues from across BU, not to mention some fantastic Student Ambassadors. Aimhigher with BU supported the Festival of Learning team by running a range of science experiments at the weekend events. The Science & Technology Ambassadors (STARS) made soap, slime and sherbet with participants of all ages. Visitors learnt about the science of soap, the importance of polymers (and even creating bouncy balls) with slime and experienced an acid-base reaction in their mouths after making sherbet in three delicious flavours!
These activities have proved hugely popular, which has given the Festival team a brilliant opportunity to talk to parents about the Festival of Learning. To give you a sense of how popular these activities have been, whilst promoting the Festival of Learning, we have made:
- 343 bags of slime,
- 359 bags of sherbet
- 164 bags of soap using
- Over 4 litres of PVA glue to make slime
This is just a fraction of the activities that have taken place in the run up to the Festival to spread the word about all the brilliant events on offer, with many more between now and the end of the Festival. Many thanks to all involved!
Below are just a few snaps of the Festival team hard at work to give you a sense of what we have been up to.
